Who are we?
The business was formed in February 1989 by Paul Stubbs and started by supplying mainly HGV, Commercial Vehicle Drivers and general blue collar workers to local transport, distribution and manufacturing companies.
Today the company has expanded into other areas of the recruitment and Jobs market and now supply a range of services including Industrial, Professional, Commercial, Hospitality and Skilled Tradesmen whilst still retaining and growing its core business of Transport and Logistics Staff The company also supplies staff on a Temporary or Permanent arrangement. Each department is assigned dedicated consultants with specialist knowledge in their field, so the client really can rely on the best service possible.
Circumstances in which the use of temporary agency staff may be appropriate include:
– Cover for medium or longer term sickness or absence
– Cover during staff shortages
– Use of staff with specialist skills on a short term basis
– To ensure customer service levels are maintained during peak periods of demand
– Working on small projects or particular tasks with a limited duration
– Cover for maternity /adoption leave
– To cover periods of annual leave.
How are temporary agency staff paid?
The temporary worker has a contract for services with us and as such is paid directly by us. Temporary workers will need to complete a timesheet on a weekly basis which then needs to be verified by the client. This needs to be returned to us, signed by the client by the Tuesday following the week the temporary worker worked before payment can be made. Temporary staff are also entitled to Holiday and sickness benefits. The costs of these are met by us.
What checks are carried out on temporary agency staff?
Tower Employment Services will ensure that all temporary agency staff put forward to the client is first of all eligible to work in the UK. They will also be fully referenced checked and have been interviewed in person by a specialist consultant. Where applicable they will also have been tested on key administrative skills. A health questionnaire will also be undertaken for temporary workers required to undertake food handling and preparation. We will also make sure that they have the relevant certificates required for the task. All these checks will have been carried out by us prior to the first day of the assignment.
What are my responsibilities during the placement?
You will be required to assign duties, assess workload and monitor performance as well as on-the-job training if necessary. Any concerns relating to performance or conduct should be raised with us.
The agency worker for the relevant purposes should be treated as if they were a member of your own permanent staff. They will fall under your employers liability insurance and your health and safety policy.
It is also responsibility of the client to authenticate timesheets and to ensure that they correctly record the hours worked.
