Job Description Kitchen Porter. The job of Kitchen Porter is one of the most important roles in any establishment. Without the Kitchen Porter the kitchen will not run efficiently and if the kitchen does not run efficiently the Chefs cannot do their jobs.
The roll of Kitchen Porter does not require any experience; however knowledge in a food handling, cleaning and operating a commercial dishwasher is an asset. Kitchen Porters need to handle many responsibilities and an ability to take direction and work under supervision.
Employers needs vary considerably according to the size of their business however in general the jobs of a Kitchen Porter involve a lot of cleaning. This includes cleaning of the kitchen area and rubbish removal, as well as regularly cleaning ovens, grills, fridges, freezers, food preparation areas and soiled crockery. In some establishments it is the Kitchen Porters responsibility to clean dining areas, table’s toilets and bar areas. The job may also require receiving and storing food deliveries.
The Kitchen Porter is often responsible for the operation a commercial dishwashing machine and sometimes they are also expected to carry out the duties of washing table linens. Some positions also involve duties such as sweeping and mopping of floors and cleaning of floor drains.
