Head Waiters Job Description. Head Waiters are senior members of the food service staff The Head Waiter will assist the maitre d' and also supervise, coordinate and train waiting on staff, such as Plate Waiters, Silver Service Waiters, Kitchen Porters, Bar Staff and Wine Waiters.
Their food service duties include interacting with customers, answering questions, informing patrons of special menu items and keeping the dining area clean and organised.
Head Waiters normally work in dining rooms that offer a more formal dining experience. In addition to providing food service to restaurant patrons, Head Waiters also lead and supervise the Waiting on Staff.
They train new staff, assign waiting on duties and monitor waiting on staff during their duties. Head waiters also handle waiting on staff problems and work to resolve them. The Head Waiter will liaise with the Head Chef, Head Barman and Hotel Manager.
