Job Description Commis Chef. The Commis Chefs job is to learn how to work in every area of the kitchen. In order to accomplish this, a Commis Chef rotates throughout the kitchen, spending six months or so at one kitchen station before moving on to a different jobs and sections. At each kitchen station, the Commis Chef has the opportunity to learn from a Senior Chef who is in charge of that area usually the Head Chef or the Chef de Partie. As a Commis Chef develops their skills as they rotate throughout the kitchen, they will consider which area they want to eventually specialise in.

A Commis Chef will be expected to work under pressure in order to succeed. The job if Commis Chef involves the learning of a variety of skills within the kitchen. This is a junior position at entry level into the Catering and Hospitality industry. Sometimes the tasks asked of the Commis Chef are boring and mundane but just as important as many other tasks within the environment.

As a Commis Chef you will be responsible and answerable to the Chef and Head Chef. You will actively develop your skills and the most successful Commis Chefs are fast learners and not afraid to ask questions.

Even though the Commis Chef is one of the kitchens most junior members it is still an important job and you would be a valued member of the team. You will be expected to maintain the highest levels of hygiene and abide by the health and safety policy of the organisation. Quick thinking and the ability to learn by Commis Chefs would ensure a steady progression up the career ladder.
